The Silvertones of Strath Haven High School

Founded in 1985, the Silvertones is a select 30- to 36-voice a capella ensemble specializing in small ensemble music. The Silvertones first toured southern Italy in 1998, singing sacred motets of 16th century Italy. In 2001, the Silvertones toured northern Italy, where they added Palestrina’s Missa Viri Galilaei to their concert program. In 2003, they took their concert tour to the Amalfi Coast. In 2005, the Silvertones’ concert tour took them to Sicily, where they performed 7 concerts. In 2007, their tour included the Puglia region of Italy and they returned to the Amalfi Coast. In 2009, they visited the historic Umbrian and Tuscan countryside and Florence and finished in the Cinque Terre. In 2011, they began to repeat this cycle: in 2015 they returned to Sicily and in 2017 to Tuscany.  The 2019 tour will include Milan, Venice and the Como region.

The Silvertones alternate their foreign tours with a full year-end concert. These concerts have included Musica Trans-Alpina, Rachmaninoff’s All-Night Vigil and Buxtehude and Bach Magnificats. The Silvertones have performed for the PMEA State Conference in 1996, 2002, and 2005 and for the MENC All-Eastern Conference in 2009.
